The public gave £1.7billion less in the year to April than they did in the previous 12 months - a fall of 15% in cash terms and a fifth after inflation. Last year's Mayor of Reading handed out a pot of cash worth £32,000 to mark the end of her time in office. Councillor Debs Edwards held a reception in the Mayor's Parlour on Thursday last week to distribute the money to her chosen charities.
