Donations to charity fell by 20% this year due to the household income squeeze. The public gave £1.7billion less in the year to April than they did in the previous 12 months - a fall of 15% in cash terms and a fifth after inflation. The report, based on a survey of 3,000 people, was compiled by the Charities Aid Foundation and the National Council for Voluntary Organisations.

A Domino’s Pizza store in Llanelli has started a fundraising project where they ask customers to donate unwanted books in aid of the Wales Air Ambulance charity. Based on Bridge Street in Llanelli, this Domino’s Pizza store has already created quite a buzz for this unique charity partnership.

The ladies of the South Yorkshire fire brigade have been even braver than usual, stripping off to take part in a scantily clad photo shoot for a calender to raise money for Cancer Research UK and the Fire Fighters Charity.

A Cardiff student and her friends have stripped off in a naked calendar to raise money for a brain tumour charity after her mother was diagnosed with the disease.


Lottery Funding

Newmains Community Trust project gets £2m Lottery grant. The grant for Newmains Community Trust is one of the largest ever awarded by the Big Lottery Fund in Scotland. It will pay for a new facility in the former mining village which can offer space for young and older people and outreach services.

A green-fingered children’s community group was given a hand up with a four-figure award from a national lottery fund.
Boddam Playgroup, which provides care for three to five-year-old children in the Banff and Buchan area, was given £1505 from The Communities and Families Fund, which is part of The Big Lottery Fund.

A grant of £109,091 has been awarded by the Big Lottery Fund (BIG) to a project to improve the physical and mental well-being of older people around Liverpool.

Big Lottery boost for Cumbrian family support charity. A large grant has been awarded to Singleton (Fylde) Village Hall, which will use its award of £345,969 to refurbish the hall.

Handful Productions is one of 19 groups across Northern Ireland awarded grants totalling over £141,000 from the Big Lottery Fund and Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

4000 families to benefit from lottery grant given to Wessex Autistic Society.
Wessex Autistic Society is one of 5 charitable organisations in the south west to receive a slice of a £1.3million grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

A local youth project has been awarded £292,236 from the Big Lottery Fund to provide assistance to young carers, aged 12-18 years over the next three years.


Mayor Charity of the Year

The Mayor of Peterborough, Councillor George Simons is hosting the second of his charity coffee mornings in the reception room at the town hall, in Bridge Street, on Monday, 19 November between 10am and noon.

A tea dance held by Frome's mayor Pippa Goldfinger has raised nearly £800 for her chosen charities.

MS South Tyneside is one of three local charities supported this year by the Mayor of South Tyneside, Coun Eileen Leask, through the annual Mayor's Charity Fund.
